I absolutely love Raku pottery and it's so hard to find a Raku artist who makes jewelry components. I was so happy when I found Amy Mealey, she is amazing. I made this 18" necklace with Amy's pendant and beads adding some Czech beads and seed beads to bring out the beauty of the Raku. The clasp is a copper toggle clasp and is 17”
Raku is a type of Japanese pottery traditionallycharacterized by being hand-shaped rather than thrown, fairly porous vessels, which result from low firing temperatures, lead glazesand the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. In the traditional Japaneseprocess, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed tocool in the open air.
Czech Beads
Czech glass beads are beautiful handmade treasures you'll want to add toyour collection. Glass making in the Czech Republic is an age-old cottageindustry and these glass beads are still produced in small batches by skilledartisans.
Karen Porciello
Artist
This artist is a full-time federal government employee who commutes into D.C. every day. She was looking for a creative outlet to maintain her sanity, after spending the day dealing with the bureaucracy of the federal government, and one that also paired well with wine… She found it making jewelry.
She now happily creates her jewelry with seed beads, crystals, Czech beads, and wine…..lots of wine….
