I absolutely love Raku pottery and it's so hard to find a Raku artist who makes jewelry components. I was so happy when I found Amy Mealey, she is amazing. I made this 23" necklace with Amy's pendant and beads adding some Czech beads and seed beads to bring out the beauty of the Raku. The clasp is a copper toggle clasp.
Raku is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally characterized by being hand-shaped rather than thrown, fairly porous vessels, which result from low firing temperatures, lead glazes and the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. In the traditional Japanese process, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air.
Czech Beads
Czech glass beads are beautiful handmade treasures you'll want to add to your collection. Glass making in the Czech Republic is an age-old cottage industry and these glass beads are still produced in small batches by skilled artisans.
Karen Porciello
Artist
This artist is a full-time federal government employee who commutes into D.C. every day. She was looking for a creative outlet to maintain her sanity, after spending the day dealing with the bureaucracy of the federal government, and one that also paired well with wine… She found it making jewelry.
She now happily creates her jewelry with seed beads, crystals, Czech beads, and wine…..lots of wine….
